17 Sustainable Clothing Brands for Big and Tall Men

  1. I was a bit disappointed because only one of the websites have pants longer than 34. My tall, but not big, son is a 34×36.

    1. Hey Rachel, thank you for your comment. I hear you there – all of Taylor Stitch’s pants come in 36″ inseams (I’m sure that’s the brand you referenced) and are really great pants. One brand we didn’t mention – Nudie Jeans offers 36″ inseams for jeans: https://shop.ecostylist.co/6lH

  2. This list is not even remotely catering to true big and tall sizing, nothing over a 40 waist or beyond a 3x. It’s really disappointing to see that even menswear companies can’t seem to get on the plus size fashion band wagon.

    1. M, we hear your frustrations and agree that more options are needed for plus size men. As our brands list grows, and as the brands themselves grow and offer more sizing, we will update the article with more options.

  3. I wish you would have put in a little more effort when researching these brands. Take Organic Basics, for example. Look at their size charts. What they call ‘XXL’ isn’t even ‘XL’ in most other brands. This article would be a lot more useful (and accurate) if you looked up actual sizes rather than ambiguous ‘XXL’ designations.

    1. Beckfield, thanks for the feedback – it’s a fair point about Organic Basics. I went through all the brands and because the size charts vary by brand and I don’t think most people know their chest measurements, etc. off-hand, we added a note at the beginning recommending folks check each brands size chart for best fit. I know that’s not as easy as what you’re suggesting, but it’s a step in the right direction. I also just updated the full article – replacing a few brands that had limited sizing options with brands that have larger sizes like Girlfriend Collective (6xl), Known Supply (4xl), Tentree and Nudie Jeans. I hope you find it a bit more useful with the updates.

  4. As mentioned, to create a truly useful list like this, it will take a little more time and engagement than just looking at “lettered” sizing. I’m in the tricky tall and slender category and so it’s necessary to look at measurements – especially sleeve and body length measurements on shirts. This is where I decide if a company makes clothes for tall people – not pants where it’s relatively more common to find 34-36′ inseams. For example, I love Outerknown’s fabric! I wish it wasn’t made for shrimpy mofos! I want just about every shirt they make, but no way is that for tall people (unless you like 3/4 length sleeves and to show off your tramp stamp!) 😉
I know they’re a bit main stream, but they do some organic stuff: Scotch & Soda. Half my clothes are from S&S. The other half: Woolly.

    1. Hey Ethan – thanks for your thoughts!
We recognize that this guide is far from perfect. Our first priority is the research we do on brands’ ethics and sustainability. It’s also important that our resource is inclusive (size being a very important dimension there) and we hope to keep making this guide better as we add more brands to our directory.

We recently added a couple brands that you might find useful:
      1) Unspun does custom sizing jeans. Check out our Brand Rating or shop here:
      https://www.eco-stylist.com/ethical-brand/unspun/

      2) Suit Supply does custom suit sizing. They also offer shirts in Long sizes. Check out our Brand Rating or shop here: https://www.eco-stylist.com/ethical-brand/suit-supply/

Also thanks for sharing those brands! I’ll add them to our research cue.

  5. This guide is almost entirely focused on the big part of Big and Tall. Recognized there’s more of a market for big and tall clothing than small and tall clothing, but is there any chance you’d publish a guide for the small and tall guys?

    1. Hey Alex – thanks for your question!
I appreciate the idea and will consider it—especially as we add more brands.

In the meantime here’s a few brands I’d recommend checking out:

Unspun does custom sizing jeans. Check out our Brand Rating or shop here:
      https://www.eco-stylist.com/ethical-brand/unspun/

Suit Supply does custom suit sizing. They also offer shirts in Long sizes. Check out our Brand Rating or shop here: https://www.eco-stylist.com/ethical-brand/suit-supply/

And Adelante (noted above) does custom shoe sizing. I hope that helps as a start!

  6. This writer obviously doesn’t understand the concept of big and tall🙄 how is 2xl even remotely big? And most of these brands in pants?! It a joke. My guy need to do more research

    1. Hey Donnie – I hear you there and we recognize that this guide is far from perfect. Our first priority is the research we do on brands’ ethics and sustainability. From those brands we’re highlighting the best options we have available but it’s also very important that our resource is inclusive (size being a very important dimension there) and we hope to keep making this guide better as we add more brands to our directory.

That being said we more recently added brands with 3x, 4x, and 6x. And we’ll be adding a couple new brands here soon:
      1) Unspun does custom sizing jeans. Check out our Brand Rating or shop here:
      https://www.eco-stylist.com/ethical-brand/unspun/
      2) Suit Supply does custom suit sizing. They also offer shirts in Long sizes. Check out our Brand Rating or shop here: https://www.eco-stylist.com/ethical-brand/suit-supply/

I hope the additions help and we’ll continue to update this as we get new options.
      -Garik

  7. It’s not on you guys and this post has helped me learn a few brands. But you should at least acknowledge that there IS a big AND tall sizing convention- I am 6’6” 300lbs- so I wear XXXLT casual shirts and outerwear. Just like a more mainstream size, different brands fit differently but the “T” typically means that the sleeves and body will be long enough. XXXL will fit me sometimes until I wash the item and sometimes not at all.
As for pants, whether I have my dad/beer belly or not, the issue is usually thigh diameter and rise. I can buy a pair of 38-42” waist pants with 34-36” inseam and not be able to pull them to my hip even if the waistband is loose. I’m no Halfthor but it is a struggle and quite speedy to have to buy WAY oversized and have it tailored- and almost always it’s conventional fashion and not sustainable that can fit me. Thanks for the “vent” space lol.

    1. Hey Nate, thanks for sharing your thoughts! You’re absolutely right that more of the brands cover big versus tall, and big & tall is harder to find. We aim to keep adding more brands and keep making this list better over time. In the meantime I think some of the best brands above would be Unspun (custom size jeans), Adelante (made to order shoes in any size, even different sizes for the left and right shoe), Suit Supply (has some big & tall) and Ministry of Supply (which has a little less but some options).

  8. I am trying to find my husband a pair of shorts. Not a single one of your websites offer his size in shorts 3xl / 44. I just wasted the last hour looking through every single website. Please rename this article because it hardly offers big *AND* tall
